Helping to Keep Your Family Strong during Military Family Month

(From the MILITARY ONESOURCE November 2016 Newsletter)

Military service is characterized by hard work and sacrifice, and families give service members the love and support they need to function well and stay mission ready.

November is Military Family Month, and we salute the strength and vibrancy of our military families. There are also many services through the DoD and Military OneSource to help keep families healthy and strong. Here are some highlights:

Relocation Tools and Assistance: Whether you're facing your first PCS or are an old hand, the Relocation Assistance Program offers services to make your next move your best move. The program offers individual move planning - one-on-one consultations that can cover anything from housing to pets - as well as workshops and briefings on topics such as purchasing a home or touring your new area.

Financial and Legal Services: When you're faced with important life decisions, you don't need to go it alone. Military OneSource provides many free financial services, such as guidance on living within your means and controlling your budget when your spouse is deployed. There's also help to guide you through legal issues, such as updating important documents before deployment and estate planning. See what financial and legal services are available to your family.

Confidential Help and Support: Everyone can use a little support now and then to keep emotionally healthy and at their best. Military OneSource provides free confidential, non-medical counseling to eligible service members and their families. Counseling is offered for help with marital problems, parenting, stress management, grief and loss, and other issues.

Deployment Support and Services: Deployment is a part of military life that affects your entire family. Military OneSource offers services to help you and your family stand tall and strong while your partner is deployed.

Transition Services: For service members preparing to transition out, there are many important decisions to make. Military OneSource can help you and your family work through the transition with help applying for benefits and services, exploring a new career, continuing your education, and much more.

Education Benefits and Services to Support Spouse Employment: The Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program helps military spouses grow personally and professionally with educational and career benefits and services. Whether you want to work toward a degree or land a great job, this is the place to start.

Childcare Resources and Important Benefits Information: You want your child to have the best childcare experience - and so do we. The military offers many childcare options - both on the installation and off - to help your child thrive and put your mind at ease while you work.
